Not The Half of It

Hmm...
Time for The Environment Agency to start claiming (again) that they're not civil servants perchance?

and it would seem things aren't moving quickly enough...

  1. We don't consider ourselves as civil servants, so are above this :@ Shame, as at least 30-40% of my colleagues would have been dismissed long ago.

  2. There is an e-petition open requesting the devolution of the Environment Agency's regulatory role to local councils, where at least the "public servants" are required by law to answer to the public they represent. If you are in support, sign at http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/52020

    2. Michael,
the answer to the first question is categorically yes, second question - categorically yes.

From our small research into other businesses regulated by the EA we have found inconsistency of regulation and whim /arbitrary actions driving an enforcement culture that mimics the worst of parking warden behaviour albeit on a scale sometimes thousands of times more expensive for the victms...

Information from Scotland indicates that SEPA generally have a far more collaborative approach - the EA is an organisation out of control and cocking it's snoot at accountability. Senior officers making statements which conflict directly with the actual authoritative advice they've requested and been given in order to deflect criticism does not help any.

Presently absolutely not fit for purpose and too many people (note - not all) determined to keep their seats on the gravy train and indulge themselves at the public's expense.

The lack of accountability and effective oversight has infected many of our public bodies - levels of incompetence are toe-curlingly high, cover ups, legal bullying and the cultivation of public apathy drive the mess onwards.

Good luck with that petition - just a shame it won't be treated like a proper petition was in some days gone by where somebody with actual authority would act.... 'pon occasion.

    3. Their are some really good people in the EA shame the bad penny's are in position, getting the EA publicity of a bad kind. Look at the good public body's been cut and look at the money the EA are wasting, just because of the bad penny's, they should be made accountable. They should be ashamed of themselves, no doubt a some stage someone they no will need a service or the NHS and the cuts will affect them. That is when it will come home to roost.

  5. This time of year, with the good weather, is a good opportunity to catch EA field staff wasting tax payers money - I've just made a quick post at http://insidetheenvironmentagency.co.uk/index.php?controller=post&action=view&id_post=7

  7. It is good to see that Henry of www.insidetheenvironmentagency.co.uk is back on line. The shut up obviously was not permanent. I now have the link saved in my favourites. He tells the truth from the inside.
I know a number of ex EA officers who left when they got to a certain level because they could not stand the idea of the office politics and stupid H&S restrictions eg Female staff are not allowed to use the stairs if they are wearing high heals.
