10,000,000 Miles in a Nissan Leaf?

Sunday 9 September 2012

Well, here we are - now in sight is the third anniversary of North Mill Avoncliff's application for abstraction and impoundment licences from The Environment Agency - we've endured two rounds of determination and still... no electricity being generated at Avoncliff - in fact, thanks to the EA, it seems as far away as ever...

The Environment Agency has wilfully burnt its way through well in excess of  £500,000, lost a case at the High Court where it admitted to acting illegally, dissembled and delayed and certain officials have clearly conspired to pervert proper process taking place. All over a licence that costs £150 and is a stepping stone to local authority planning permission - which hasn't even started yet....

The hubris and flagrant disregard for statutory duty displayed by these civil servants has been truly epic.

That to date no persons have been held to account over the toxic mess of irrational, arbitrary and perverse activities perpetrated by the EA at Avoncliff is a true indictment of our increasingly dysfunctional public institutions. That no environmental pressure group has even squeaked about the EA messing up make it clear that he who pays the piper calls the tune principle is in operation.

In the meantime the EA have messed up the second round of determination and are busying themselves with what they seem to do best:

  2. Its easy to waste tax payers money, not fit for purpose David cameron should stop this waste, sort them out, or shut them down. The EA should Man Up and put right what they have done wrong, and deal with the officers who created this situation. Simon [Bath]

  3. There really should be some consequences for the officials who've done this. If they were in real life rather than government employ - they'd have been P45'd ages ago.

  8. The last Labour Government came up with a wonderful way of describing failing government departments "Not fit for purpose" a true description of the Environment Agency (EA).
We are told that the EA is to be reviewed / disbanded and probably combined with British Waterways in 2014. I am reliably informed the EA is in the process of splitting off all the Welsh responsibility so that it comes under the Welsh Assembly. Cynically this is one way of securing the jobs of those working in Wales. There is no finalised name for the new Welsh agency. In Scotland it is called SEPA generally pronounced See-Pa. I somehow doubt that in Wales it will be called WEPA pronounced Wee-Pa. As it already makes people weep it would not require any rebranding which would reduce the cost, not something government departments know how to do, especially re-organising 2 years before a planned major re-organisation. It would make a good newspaper headline "WEPA has them WEEPING"

    1. NO THE ONLY COMMITMENT THE ENVIRONMENT AGENCY HAVE IS TO LIE, MALL-ADMINISTER, CONSPIRE NOT TO PERFORM THEIR STATUARY DUTY,AND BREAK THEIR CODE OF CONDUCT, THEN THROW INTO THE MIX AS MUCH PUBLIC MONEY AND TIME AS POSSIBLE, ALL FOR A £150 WATER LICENCE TO PRODUCE GREEN POWER ---KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE WEBSITE---

  15. WOW the mill looks great from the river bank tin shed nearly gone can you please give more info on the web site, cant believe the crap you have had to put up with from the EA. From the outside looking in it is clear the best location for a turbine is north mill deep side of river, secure location, easier access,it seems clear that the turbine proposed is a well trusted and very efficient and fish freindly SO WHAT IS THE ISSUE ??? weavers is a crazy location with access issues HOW ARE THEY GOING TO FIT A HOME BUILT TURBINE IE CONCRETE etc DIY.So it seems clear the EA do not want to give north mill the licence as it will make them look incompitent, they should do the right thing and give the licence to north mill with an apology for the officers concerned behaviour 3years is crazy.
