10,000,000 Miles in a Nissan Leaf?

Sunday 29 September 2013

Shocked , Shocked we were ....

Oh, OK then, no - we weren't really.

Prepare yourself for a generous dollop of indignation

One has to suppose that there's some pretty curious accounting going on at the Environment Agency in order to "justify" putting several hundred people out of work and ruining a business off the back of a pack of lies.

The story of Nigel and Philip England caught our eye as victims of  what one must assume is yet more EA perpetrated wild invention and the whole all too familiar nasty carnival of tricks and bureaucratic banditry we've come to expect from an organisation as out of control as the EA.

Click to enlarge (and get indignant)

Can law enforcers show restraint when pocketing the proceeds?  Crikey - that's an understatement and actually misses the point by a country mile - can officials make up a sump of toxic kerrap and then try to drown you in it whilst simultaneously stealing the contents of your bank account? - is more like it.

Using heaps of taxpayer's money to indulge in legal bullying and epic dishonesty spiced up with the colossally full-on irony that they are trying to prosecute a third party for something that The Environment Agency negligently actually failed to do themselves in the first place?

The EA - strangers to integrity, honesty, competence etc., etc.

We hope that the Englands are going after the individual officials that perpetrated this - but having spent £400,000 defending themselves from these gits one has to assume they're a bit circumspect about the whole matter...

Truly a shameful episode that deserves wider coverage

Even if you can rely on the BBC to parrot your self serving guff
(and leave out the  £1,200,000 legal bill to the taxpayer)

A copy of the BBC report on the "not guilty on 11 charges" report is archived here
just in case it disappears...

No smoke without fire some might say and I'd agree -
only the smoke isn't coming from Siteserv

  1. I've made reference to this in a recent post. Unfortunately, with current restrictions, I am limited in how much I can divulge without affecting other related activities.

  2. Reading the Avoncliff saga at least ten officers are named, all of which seem guilty of been complicit in wrong doing and cover up, why should innocent hard working officers lose jobs??these named officers should be top of the hit list. But this will not happen as at least half the officers involved are high ranking including Paul Leinster & David Jordan they should all be accountable for wasting so much public money.

  4. You can change the name EA to Natural Resources Wales but if you don't change the people and the culture you have just more of the same but guess what they will blame the EA as the "previous agency". They think we're stupid, we must be to pay their wages.

  5. Sorry to hear about your plight. We are having a similar problem with an application in York. Everything is in order, but we are having issues with an Environment Officer Rita Reid. Apparently, she is not happy with the location, despite two other Environment Officers saying that they would allow it. We've written to more senior members about two months ago, but no reply yet. We'd like to wish you luck. Hopefully, things will eventually get sorted out.

  9. Don't hold your breath but the EA, a qango, is due to be reviewed and split up. It was a Conservative Party election promise to get rid of all qango's.
The rumour has it this will happen in 2014. Some parts are supposed to go to the Canal and River Trust, formerly British Waterways, then a qango now a charitable trust. What happens to the rest is anybody's guess. You can be assured as Lord Mountbatten is reputed to have said when his ship was sunk during the war in the Mediteranian and he was sharing some flotsam with a couple of ordinary sailors to stay afloat until rescued. The rubbish tends to rise to the top. It was said in humour and was self deprecating. However you can be sure the bad apples in the EA will look after each other and the good, reliable, honest officers will have a hard time. In all probability whatever they call the resulting shambles it will not improve without a complete independent overhaul. Evidence the name change of EA Wales to Natural Resources Wales. There have been some improvements but most of the rubbish officers are still in place.

  10. I've been in touch with the Earl of Shrewsbury Charles Chetwynd-Talbot http://news.bbc.co.uk/democracylive/hi/representatives/profiles/27008.stm. I read his article on insidetheea and he seems to understand what is happening. I'll let you know what happens.

well, it's clear that the incumbents have no appetite for any criticism or transparency - certain thin skinned liars moaned to us again about naming officials... there will be some spitting of feathers soon when we not only name them - but publish what they've said - with the evidence. They think they can keep spouting whoppers without any consequences....

The plug should be pulled on the whole rotten power drunk crony ridden edifice.

As we see in the main post it's all about their "enforcement" mindset - they see themselves as government but they want the power without the responsibility or accountability - they can do no wrong and reckon that even if they do wrong they won't be brought to book.

There are laws and statutes that have been broken in all this - unfortunately the Crown Prosecution Service now shares desks with EA lawyres..... go figure.

  12. I'm glad I came across this site. I also used to work for the EA in the capacity of an EO. None of what you say surprises me. They had a large recruitment drive beginning of last year. There were some really impressive candidates that turned up for the assessment, but strangely enough, not a single one of those got the job. Instead, a number of questionable candidates were taken. One of them was a Greek national who was taken on conditionally (her English comprehension skills were deplorable, but they apparently saw something). Turned out during her first six months she had been fixing her timesheets. Quick chat with her manager and she was told to stop. She continued to fix her timesheets for a further three months, and by that time her original manager had been replaced. She's still there. Just one example of the type of people who work there. Glad I'm no longer there, but feel very bad for the businesses they regulate. During my 12 months there, they had an inordinate amount of manager turnover. This might be one of the reasons for the poor discipline and questionable culture. I can attest that there were many (and I mean many) questionable practices.

    1. Welcome James

thanks for taking the time to comment - we appreciate it.

My experience out in the commercial world is that a high management churn is one of the prime indicators of something wrong - generally it indicates that they can't do their jobs for a variety of reasons and if this inability to perform continues then the company fails. In the public sector there are only vestigial, ineffective sanctions for non performance and the situation has to be quite catastrophically bad before (e.g. some NHS Trusts , UKBA etc) action is taken and then it's done "on the quiet".

The EA is a case where the organisation is staggeringly poorly performing yet manages to lurch ever onward - not unlike the North Korean Communist Party I'm so fond of comparing them to.

In my view It is failures in leadership and management coupled to an unbridled appetite for unrestrained petty power that have mostly caused the present situation. Hubris isn't a word I throw around lightly - but institutionally it surely applies in spades to the EA.

We are just so fed up with the lies, the conniving, the towering arrogance of people who actually have nothing to be arrogant about except possibly their sense of pumped up self regard.

The folk perching at the top of this edifice and filling their pockets with public funds, strutting around bloated with pride - not bothering to actually do their jobs... are the ones who've left the helm of the ship to party - and possibly - like the Costa Concordia they'll end up in the scrapyard - but not before they've ruined quite a few lives.

Would be delicious though if a few have to answer to a judge :-)
